Founder Board Member – Harry Hunt OAM JP LOA
Harry Hunt is a founder board member and ex-President of the South west Sydney Tourism Task force (2017-2022) . Harry hunt ran the Hunts hotel in Liverpool for more than 50 years and served the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce from 1980 to 2016. He was well known for this charity and support to the community of Liverpool and was awarded last year as the Senior Citizen Award at Council’s Australia Day Awards Ceremony. Referred to as ‘Mr Liverpool’. Harry has served the Liverpool community through his involvement in the Liverpool business awards, Liverpool Rotary Club and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. He also generously supported fundraising events for the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research, Liverpool SES, Liverpool hospital and many more. Harry worked hard with the board to revive and drive tourism in South West Sydney & leaves behind his vision, to make Southwest Sydney a destination for both local and international tourists and visitors. The South West Sydney Board and members are determined to make Harry’s vison a reality.
President and Secretary – Fazila Farhad
After graduation from University College London (UCL), Fazila started her banking career at Standard Chartered Bank and rose to the Head of Private Banking. Her industry experience ranged from banking into Business development with Dupont Corian in 2006. She came into hospitality with Crown Plaza Norwest & joined her family business, Z hotels by acquiring the Lansvale hotel in 2013 in Southwest Sydney and rebranded it to Ibis Styles & Ramada hotels. She operated Ramada Hotel in SWS as a franchise owner for 8 years. Fazila is an active community supporter for Greater Sydney and has sponsored an array of educational and charity events for Liverpool Hospital, Ingham Institute, local Business awards ,Fairfield Hospital, Western Sydney University , Cancer council etc .In 2017 ,she became a founder board member of South West Sydney Tourism Taskforce NSW Inc thorough which she and the board were active in reviving local tourism in South West Sydney by launching tourism maps & working closely with local councils, various stakeholders & Western Sydney Airport . Other board positions she holds are Australia Hotels Association (AHA), Tourism Accommodation Australia NSW (TAA) and the Chamber of Commerce of Liverpool and Cabramatta.
Vice President – Karress Rhodes
Karress Rhodes was the previous Vice President and a founding member of SWSTT.She has served on the boards of numerous Liverpool community Not for Profit organisations including Secretary of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce whilst Harry Hunt was the serving President. She has run her own business since 1977, including publishing a Liverpool community magazine. Karress has advocated for Tourism and visitation in South West Sydney since 2010. She is a currently serving Independent Councillor for Liverpool City Council, being first elected in 2016, re-elected in 2022 and was elected in the first term 2022 as Deputy Mayor. Karress is a current Liverpool Councillor Representative on Western Sydney Region of Councils (WSROC) and the current elected Treasurer of WSROC.
Treasurer – Tom Wang JP
Managing Director – Fifty Group
Tom was the founding Managing Director of Quest Liverpool, the first premium accommodation provider located in Liverpool’s CBD. He brings the SWSTT committee his vision that tourism is one of the strongest drivers of world trade and prosperity. Through collaboration it can act as an engine for our city’s development by attracting international and domestic visitors and creating direct and indirect employment. He is a strong believer in uniting the tourism stakeholders in Southwest Sydney to work together to showcase the assets in the region. Tom continues to make investments in tourism assets .
Director – June Young OAM CCM JP
Liverpool Tourism and CBD Committee – Liverpool Council
June has been a resident of Liverpool for 40+ years and during this time has worked endlessly for the Community. She had her own business in Liverpool for 23 years, and during this time was Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce for 15 years. She has served on many Liverpool Council committees, including the Mall Committee and the Liverpool Business Awards. She is currently serving on the Tourism & CDB Committee, as well as the Civic Advisory Committee. She is also currently a Director of City of Fairfield RSL Memorial Club, as well as holding the position as the RSL sub Branch Welfare Officer. June has been a Justice of the Peace for over 35 years and is a member of Liverpool Branch of the NSW Justices Association. June was a board member and treasurer of Liverpool Youth Needs Committee and the Autistic Advisory Service for many years. She has been awarded the Commonwealth Centenary Medal and the Order of Australia Medal for her service to the Community, Veterans and Local Government. June has held integral roles in many charity organisations for over 30 years, both locally, and in international capacities.
